With Mother’s Day just around the corner, it’s time to make sure you’ve got a thoughtful gift for the moms in your life. If you’re still searching for ideas, check out this DIY lavender gift set. I’ve put together everything you need from easy instructions (with plenty of steps where little ones can help) to pretty labels for the finished products.

Lavender Sachet

I have made these sachets in the past by sewing together squares of fabric to fill with lavender, but you can’t beat the ease of pre-made bags. I purchase a dried lavender bunch and strip off the flowers I need, though you can also just buy the flowers.

What you’ll need:

• 3 x 4-inch muslin drawstring bag
• Small piece of cardstock
• Purple crafters/fabric inkpad
• Lavender rubber stamp
• 1/2 cup dried lavender flowers

What to do:

1. Place the cardstock inside the muslin bag to prevent your ink from bleeding through.
2. Load your stamp with ink and firmly press onto the front of your bag. (I always test stamps on scrap fabric first to get a feel for how hard I’ll need to press.) Carefully remove the cardstock and let the ink dry.
3. Add the lavender flowers to the bag, packing them down into the corners. Pull the drawstring tightly closed and tie off the base in a knot so it won’t come undone.

Lavender Milk Bath

I like to gift this milk bath in small glass milk bottles. The amounts below will make more than enough milk bath for one 11oz bottle, and it’s easy to adjust up or down depending on your container.

For a soothing bath that softens skin, add 1/4 cup of the milk bath to hot running water.

What you’ll need:

• 1 cup powdered milk
• 1 cup Epsom salt
• 8-10 drops lavender oil
• Glass bottle or jar

What to do:

1. In a medium bowl, combine the powdered milk, Epsom salt, and lavender oil.
2. Pour or spoon the mixture into your bottle or jar.

Lavender Oatmeal Soap

Making homemade soap is surprisingly easy. You do need a double boiler, but you can improvise like I do with a glass bowl set over a saucepan of water. Other than that, just make sure everything (bowl, spoon, etc.) that comes into contact with the soap base is completely dry.

My soap mold has six approximately 2 x 3-inch cavities, so 1 lb of soap base makes three nice bars. There are lots of different sizes and shapes of soap molds out there though, so use whatever one you like.

What you’ll need:

• 1 lb oatmeal melt and pour soap base
• 6-8 drops lavender oil
• 1/4 cup dried lavender flowers
• Silicone soap mold

What to do:

1. Add water to the bottom of a double boiler and bring to a boil, then reduce heat to maintain a gentle simmer. Cut the soap base into cubes and place in the top of the double boiler. Heat until the base is melted, stirring often, about 10 minutes.
2. Add the oil and flowers, then slowly pour the mixture into your mold.
3. Let the mold sit until the soap has hardened (at least 1 hour for my mold), then carefully remove the bars.

The Gift Set

Once you’ve got everything made, put it all together in attractive packing.

What you’ll need:

• Milk bath and soap label download
• Card stock, glossy paper, or sticker paper
• Ribbon or twine
• Tissue or other paper to optionally wrap soap
• A box or basket
• Some filler material such as shredded wood or tissue paper
• An optional decoration like a bundle of dried lavender

What to do:

1. Print labels on paper of your choice and cut out. (The labels include an optional second page with use instructions for the milk bath.  You can either print as a separate sheet or print on both sides of your paper choosing flip on long edge.)
2. Decoratively tie ribbon or twine around your milk bath bottle and soap, optionally wrapping the soap with a length of paper first. Affix your labels.
3. Add your filler to your box or basket, then nestle in the milk bath, soap, sachet, and any additional decorations you’d like.
